…and others that absolutely blow your mind!
Now, with the new Pinkglow™ Pineapple coming to market, we’re seeing yet another mind-blowing piece of fruit that makes you stop and do a double-take. Experience a taste of a remote paradise with this pink-hued majestic wonder. Pinkglow™ has a delicious and unique taste, with notes of candy pineapple aromatics.
So, how do the pineapples turn pink?
“Simply put, their genes have been tinkered with,” said our friends at AllRecipes. More specifically, they’ve modified the levels of specific enzymes in the pineapple. Essentially, pineapples contain pink pigment (lycopene) and yellow pigment (beta carotene). The natural process turns the pink into yellow, but changing enzymes keep the pinkness in the fruit.
When it comes to taste, the flavor typically is described as, “extra-sweet,” says a Del Monte official.
Here is a little more about the Pinkglow™ Pineapple:
Fun fact: It is also less sour than a traditional pineapple, juicier and sweeter in taste!
Pinkglow™ pineapples grow on a select farm in the South-Central region of Costa Rica, which has the ideal soil and climate for growing pineapples. Del Monte Fresh has been developing and testing the Pinkglow™ pineapple for over 16+ years to ensure the perfect taste and aromas, creating a blend that’s just right.
